In no particular order of greatness or achievement, here are 10 Indian interior designers who have made it big:
1. Aamir and Hameeda

They are probably the power couple in the interior designing field, famous for their Aamir and Hameed Interior Designers & Contractors.
Their work specialises in luxurious apartments, bars and restaurants. In Hyderabad alone, they’ve designed more than 50 restaurants along the years.
Actor Allu Arjun’s farmhouse, Sunil Shetty’s boutique More Mischief and Prost, Bengaluru are some of their famous works.
There’s no doubt their work has a distinct mark in Indian interior design and is now considered one of the best across the country.
2. Sunita Kohli

Would you believe one of the biggest names in interior design and architecture is an English Literature postgraduate?
She is famous for restoring the architectural magnificence of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament Building, Prime Minister’s Office, Secretariat and the official residence of the Prime Minister.

But her work is not limited to interior design alone. She is committed to women empowerment and children’s education through a number of NGOs.
No wonder she received the Padma Shri in 1992!
3. Shabnam Gupta

Speak celebrity homes and Shabnam Gupta is your person. She has recently designed homes for the famous actors Rani Mukherjee and Kangana Ranaut.
She describes herself as “A designer by profession, a thinker by habit, and an inventor by choice” which speaks volumes about her art.
She’s an alumnus of L.S. Raheja College of Architecture and this professional touch shows in her creations.
She also designs famous restaurant chains and professional spaces. The Social, Pune, a university in Chandigarh and The Bar Stock Exchange in Mumbai are some of her best works.
4. Gauri Khan

Gauri Khan is not just Shahrukh Khan’s wife, she is the CEO of her own design firm, Gauri Khan Designs.
She owns the furniture line called The Charcoal Project and also runs her own design store called ‘Design Cell’.
But did you know her passion for interior design grew out of her first venture doing the famous Mannat Bungalow in Bandra?
She went on to partner with Hrithik Roshan’s ex-wife Susanne Khan to design professional interior projects together and the rest is history!
5. Anjum Jung

What do you do after graduating with a B.Com.? For Anjum Jung, this was not a major question.
Morph Design Company, Bengaluru is her brainchild – a future she paved for herself over the world of commerce and accounting.
With just an intro book to architecture by the Time Savers called Standards, Jung built her own interior design brand which is to last for more than the next 25 years.
She has designed lots of luxurious spaces including Footworks Spa – Orion Mall, Prestige Golfshire villas, Angsana Oasis Spa, Prestige Oasis Resort and so on.
6. Ambrish Arora

A master of Spatial Design, Ambrish Arora set up the sustainable design business, Studio Lotus along with his colleagues Sidhartha Talwar & Ankur Choksi.
Despite being a self-taught designer and an engineering dropout, Arora delivers lectures at design events in India and abroad.

He has also received a number of laurels including the INSIDE Awards at World Architecture Festival Berlin.
After his stint in boat designing and building, Arora now owns has designed the interiors of a number of places like Masti Cocktails & Cuisine, Dubai and Hotel Raas, Jodhpur.
Arora’s designing life story teaches that there are ups and downs even in interior designing, but it is commitment and uniqueness that helps people stand out in this field.
7. Pinakin Patel

Pinakin Design LLP. is probably India’s first lifestyle and furniture store, and Pinakin Patel is the brains behind it.
Can you believe that this design empire came into form from a creative picture-framing shop in 1979? A self-taught designer, Patel is a restless learner which helped him achieve his design empire.
His firm focuses on blending the aesthetics of Indian heritage along with modern design elements. Everything the firm does has a layered statement to it and that’s their signature.
Patel’s legacy now thrives under the backing of interior designers Mohak Mehta and Pallavi Choksi.
8. Lipika Sud

Lipika Sud is the proud owner of ‘Lipika Sud Interiors Pvt. Ltd’ and ‘Dimension Designers Pvt. Ltd’.
Despite coming from an Economics background and after an LLB from the Law Faculty, New Delhi, she pursued her interest in design and completed a diploma in Interior Design from London, UK.

Her experience in the interior design field has a past of over 2 decades since 1989.
Her work includes corporate workspaces like Havells Corporate office and Ericsson, Sharda University, public places like Shivaji Stadium Metro Station & New Delhi Railway Metro Station.
9. Payal Kapoor

Based in Delhi, Payal Kapoor is known for her exemplary work in hotels, educational institutes and residences. She is a member of the Association of Designers as well.
As a graduate of the Interiors School, she does not limit her work to design alone. She is also a columnist for Hindustan Times and Pioneer Newspaper.
She started her own design firm, Visions because she felt her “identity as an Interior Designer was being encroached upon”. That sounds like a true artist at heart!

10. Tanya Gyani

Residential interior design and home décor is Tanya Gyani’s forte. She was a NIFT graduate who did her masters in Interior Design from Florence, Italy, the hub of culture and design.
Her work goes beyond Indian boundaries, but she has left a huge mark in India by designing luxurious properties of DLF like Magnolias, Aralias and Queen’s Court.
Her style is classic, elegant and rustic
Now she owns her own boutique design firm in Palo Alto, California where she is famous for her floral arrangements in select restaurants and Tech Companies.
