1. Avant Garde
Avant Garde in fashion stands for progressive and forward thinking. Any type of fashion that raises eyebrows and explores new possibilities is Avant Garde.
2. Atelier
It means a workshop or studio, basically where the designer makes the magic happen. The designer as well as apprentices or assistants work together in the atelier to produce fine pieces of apparel.
3. Ensemble
Pronounced “awn-sawm-bl”, it is used to describe a complete outfit – combined with the accessories, footwear, jewellery etc. it comes from the French word ensemblée, which means "together, at the same time."
Fashion Industry Terms in English:
All fashion terms are not in French; there are more terms that come from English, as well.
1. Fashion Cycle
Even fashion has a lifespan – it becomes popular and then phases out. This is what is called a fashion cycle. It has 5 phases - introduction, rise, peak, decline, and obsolescence.
2. Silhouette
It refers to the basic shape or outline of an outfit. Common examples include A-line, flared, straight, asymmetrical etc. Fashion designers come up with the right silhouette that flatters your body type.
3. Label
A fashion label is used by upcoming designers who make designer outfits in limited numbers. They are often more expensive than ready-to-wear garments sold by other retailers but they are cheaper than established designers.

1. Colourway
It refers to an arrangement of colours that the same fabric or garment is sold in. So, the same design may come in different colour combinations.
2. IMU
Initial markup or IMU is an estimate of the margin amount you expect to make by selling your clothes at the regular place.
3. MOQ
Minimum Order Quantity or MOQ is a term that factories and suppliers use in the fashion industry. It indicates a limit for how small a production order can be.

4. Assortment
Product assortment is the range of products that a retailer or clothes brand offers to the consumer. An ideal assortment effectively balances the number of products (breadth) and the categories within the products (depth) according to its spending capacity.
